Safety and Health Department becomes an essential unit in every working operation activity at PT Petrokimia Gresik as its attempts to create safe working environment and K3 cultural awareness of health and safety. This commitment is reflected from “Safety and Health†for employees as the first priority among the 5 (five) Company Core Values.

As its commitment for the company to

implement the priority of every unit of working aspect at PT Petrokomia Gresik,

K3 cannot be separated from its efforts to achieve “Excellence Operation†as

the main obsession for the company. A variety of programs are implemented by

the company to achieve its “Environment, Health, Safety, (EHS)

Excellence†as supporting factors in applying “Excellence Operation†at PT

Petrokimia Gresik.

With the profile of employees more than 3.000 people, 450 ha width, and 21 plants in 2013, the efforts of the company objective to achieve its HSE Excellence is accordingly realistic. Consequently, constructive supports from the top managements are required as the main priority of the company.

The commitment from the top managements in applying Safety and Health working system is decanted through integrated management system in the form of “PT Petrokimia Gresik Management System Policyâ€. Below are the details of management system policy of the company:

PT Petrokimia Gresik has its commitment to produce highly competitive fertilizers and other chemical materials. It is also intended to fill consumers’ interest through leading and sustainable working performance. Further, the company also implements various systems such as Quality Management System, Environment Management System, Integrated Safety and Health Management System (SMK3) with its commitment to:

  1. Guarantee consumer satisfaction by supplying and providing highly qualified fertilizer products, and other chemical materials and services through precise amount, types, place, time, price and quality.
  2. Prevent significant environment pollution by controlling air emission, liquid and solid wastes, noise through implementing Reduce, Recycle, and Reuse (3R).
  3. Prevent accident and disease caused by working accident, facilities and basic facilities damage, through controlling risk potential to create safe and healthy working environments.
  4. Adhere and obey any regulations and other on-going requirements and conditions. It is also demanded to be responsive to any safety issues, global and conservative environments, other resources and implementing Responsible Care and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

This policy is communicated to all employees, staff, affiliations, and other stakeholders. Finally, all the policies have to be understood and all effectiveness has to be regularly reviewed at least once in a year.

The performance of PT Petrokimia Gresik in implementing its Safety and Health Program (K3) from 2012 until April 2013 can be reflected from the achievement of Lost Time Injury (LTI)-free man-hours 53.763.409 million working hours, with the amount of days 1585 safe days (HKA). The attainment of “Zero Accident Award†and the implementation of “Excellence†or “Golden Flag Award within the certification of Safety and Health Management System (SMK3), based on government regulation 50/2012, are the real evidence of company’s achievements.

NATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH (K3) PROGRAM

PT Petrokimia Gresik through its Environment, Health, Safety Department regularly and sustainably socializes and executes its programs and activities to increase employees and neighboring society’s perspective on the implementation of Safety and Health Management System in their daily routines. It is hoped that there will be no working accidents that may hazard for both employees and neighboring society as well.

Socialization, promotions and educational program are conducted regularly by involving all company’s elements every year to celebrate National K3 Month on every January 12th. The activities are such as:

FIRE EXTINGUISHER COMPETITION

The competition of Fire Extinguisher is implemented to grow up all employees understanding on the importance of Safety and Health so they are gradually able to overcome and do the right thing to extinguish fire in their own departments. Each group competition consists of 6 members and the team commander at least top management in the level of Echelon III. They are assigned to extinguish fire pond consisting water and diesel fuel by using fire hydrant system.

These Fire Extinguisher Competitions are classified into three categories, namely:

  1. Plan Category
  2. Office Category
  3. Subsidiary, Contractors and Invited Companies

SEARCH & RESCUE COMPETITION

This competition is aimed at examining participants’ skill, agility to discover, and save all victims in every event.

QUIZ SHOW COMPETITON

This competition is aimed at measuring how far the participants’ knowledge toward Safety and Health System (K3), Fire & Rescue, as well as any other environment aspects in PT Petrokimia Gresik. These competitions are adapted from one of some competition concepts released in television station program.

K3 WRITING AND POSTER COMPETITION

This competition is implemented through both manual and computerized ways. Through this competition, it is hoped that it will emerge critical and creative thoughts from the participants. It is also used as a medium of promoting the implementation of K3, PPSH, environment sensitivity, prevention toward the unsafe conditions and actions.

K3 KNOWLEDGE QUIZ

K3 knowledge quiz is implemented as part of Contractor Safety Management System and Behavior Based Safety work plans. It is intended to increase awareness of employees as well as their colleagues toward K3. This quiz is conducted unscheduled and abruptly to all employees, subsidiaries, and affiliations around PT Petrokimia Gresik area.

Safety and Health Department of PT Petrokimia Gresik provides some awards, certificates and prize for the winners.

FIRE EXTINGUISHER UNIT

Fire Extinguisher Unit of PT Petrokimia Gresik possesses a duty to both identify and mitigate fire risk potentials, providing and doing regular probe to its equipments, covering the whole area of the company. Second, it also has a duty to enroll K3 education and training on how to prevent and overcome fire occurrence towards all employees and its affiliations of PT Petrokimia Gresik. In addition, this unit becomes the center of Rescue and Response Team of PT Petrokimia.

Rescue and Response equipments

  1. 2 Fire trucks and their fire equipments, which have water capacity 2000 liter and 9500 liter.
  2. 4 Fire trucks with combined fire media and foam. Their water capacities have 4000 liter water with 1000 liter foam, 3000 liter water with 300 liter foam, 4500 liter water and 250 liter foam, and 4500 liter water and 1000 liter foam.
  3. 1 Back up Fire trucks with its fire extinguisher media.
  4. 1 Rescue truck with rescue equipments for all emergency conditions.
  5. 2 Mobile Ambulances.
  6. 3 Rubber boats for Harbor and Marine.

As part of Corporate Social Responsibility Program (CSR) and its awareness toward neighboring society, Fire team, Rescue and Response Team of PT Petrokimia Gresik are ready to dedicate them to help on every emergency within radius at about 5 kilometers from the company.
